ATLANTIC SLAVERY
Spurred by European economic plans and a desire to create wealth, the colonial economy needed a source of labor. A source of labor capable of working in extreme conditions and producing massive amounts of goods. After failed attempts with enslaving American Indians and relying on indentured servants, the European Colonies turned to captured and enslaved Africans. As a result, 12,000,000 million people were forcibly transported to the Americas where a life of slavery awaited. Our goals will be to understand not only the causes and statistics that go along with slavery in the Americas, but to also understand the human element.
