THE CONSTITUTION
Chapters 7 and 8
After nearly a decade in a state of rebellion, the United States emerged from the Revolutionary War as free and independent states. This mean that Act I of the American Revolution was complete and the fate of the Early Republic would play out over the next few acts. What waited at the dawn of the new republic in 1783 was a question that we still debate today. What would the nature and role of the national government be? This chapter will focus on this question and the momentous events, rancorous debate, and tremendous compromises that accompanied Act II of the American Revolution. In our present day environment of partisan politics and heated debate over policies like "Obamacare" and ideas about gun control, there are few topics in United States history as relevant and timeless as the formation of the Constitution.
